Communicopia was founded in 1998 by Angela Bendorf
Jamison, a former newspaper reporter, editor, public
relations agency account supervisor and corporate communications
manager. As principal of Communicopia, Angela plans,
manages and implements work for clients, assuring high-quality
service and an understanding of the business.
Why I decided to go into business for myself:
After working as a newspaper editor, public relations
agency professional and corporate communications manager,
I wanted to take that experience and do something on
my own. I’m not sure I would have quit my job
and risked starting a company. But eventually the decision
was made for me as I was part of a corporate downsizing
with the company I worked for in RTP. With a severance
package and encouragement from clients who wanted to
use my services, I started Communicopia in November
1998 as a home-based business. As I grew and hired
employees, I moved to offices in mid-town Raleigh in
2002 (then called North Hills) and in June 2006 moved
to historic downtown Wake Forest.
Having my own business, I’m able to work hard,
yet still be a mom. I took Fridays off up until my
daughter started kindergarten. Now, I take six-year-old
Camryn to school every morning and enjoy being involved
in her activities. I worked hard early in my career
so now I can take the time to also be a wife and mom.
The greatest reward of having my own business is being
able to structure my time around serving clients and
being with my family.
